15k Run – Charlie Bins

The 15k event is our premier event designed to challenge your fitness and legs. The road course is scenic, taking in the Yarra River and parts of Warrandyte State Park.  As with all of our events it begins on the Main Oval at the Warrandyte Reserve on Taroona Avenue, turns out of the main Oval gate and through the Sports Club car park.

The 15k event starts with 4 ¼ laps of the Oval before you wave goodbye to your supporters and head out onto the road. There are some minor hills, a short rough section and a character filled rural suburban section to the course. You will complete three laps of this picturesque course before returning to the Oval, complete the final ¾ lap to the finish line.

Once off the Oval and on the road you will head down Taroona Ave outside the Sports Club and head towards the river where participants turn left onto Everard Drive. The course continues all the way along Everard Drive to the Mid-way Drinks Station at Everard and Pound, then turning right onto the Pound Bend Tank Track. The Tank Track is a short but challenging climb and decent, slightly rough under foot (extra care is required on this section) and takes you through to the Parks Victoria Drinks Station at the end of Pound Bend Rd.  You will return back to the Mid-way Drinks Station at Pound and Everard along Pound Bend Road, being sure to keep to the left hand side of the road as the Pound Bend Road section is a shared roadway, and then be diverted up another short, steep hill to Third Avenue.  You run the full length of this character filled Warrandyte street and then turn left onto West End Rd and left back into Taroona Avenue.

When back at Taroona Avenue, rather than returning to the Oval you will lap the road section two more times, then return to the oval, complete your ¾ of a lap to the finish line. (refer to map)

This 15km course is perfect training for events like the Puffing Billy run. If you felt comfortable with 2 laps of the hills last year then this is the one for you.
